    SPECIFICATIONS
    The SG 502 Oscillator is an RC design featuring distortion less the 0.035% over the entire audio range of 20 Hz to 50 kHz. Distortion does not exceed 0.1% over the balance of its 5 Hz to 500 kHz coverage. Output amplitude is flat within ±0.3 dB over the entire range. The output impedance is the 600 ohm audio industry standard. Amplitude control of 70 dB is available in 10 dB steps plus a 40 dB variable attenuator. A fixed-amplitude square wave is present simultaneously.

    The SG 502 occupies a single slot in a TM500 Mainframe.

    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

    Controls and Connectors


    FREQUENCY Hz -- Calibrated from 0.5 to 5.0. Selects frequency in conjunction with MULTIPLIER

    MULTIPLIER -- Multiply FREQUENCY Hz dial setting by active pushbutton to obtain output frequency.

    VAR AMPLITUDE -- 0 to > 40 dB attenuation continuously variable.

    STEP ATTEN Calibrated attenuation steps of 10, 20, and 40 dB. These are push-on/push-off buttons. If all buttons are pushed in, there is a total of 70 dB attenuation in addition to the VAR AMPLITUDE.

    Square-Wave Output BNC Connector

    SYNC INPUT -- Connect to external signal source for synchronization.

    Sine-Wave Output BNC connector.

    POWER -- When lit, indicates power is applied.

    Synchronization With an External Device

    To synchronize the SG 502 with an external oscillator, plug the sine-wave output of the external oscillator into the SYNC INPUT jack on the front panel. Attempting synchronization with other than a sine-wave may cause harmonic distortion of the SG 502 output. Maximum purity is obtained when both signals are the same frequency.

    The frequency range over which the synchronization occurs depends upon the amplitude of the synchronizing signal. The voltage required for synchronization varies linearly from 0 V (when the frequencies are identical) to approximately 5 V rms (when the frequencies differ by 5%).

    Approximately a 1 V p-p sine wave at the oscillator frequency is available from the SYNC INPUT connector. The source impedance is 10 kΩ.

    Synchronizing and External Device

    The +5 V square-wave output can be used to synchronize an external device such as a counter or oscilloscope. The square-wave amplitude will be +5 V open-circuited, and will decrease as the load impedance decreases.
